Floorboards are ordered in square yards. The length of floorboarding supplied per square yard is dependent on its width. However, the actual lengths of the individual floorboards cannot be specified, and in any case would never exceed 18 feet due to operational constraints. Below are a couple of examples of the lengths supplied for equivalent square yardage
| WIDTH | LENGTH |
| 8 and a quarter inch | 13 and a quarter running feet |
| 6 and a quarter inch | 18 running feet |
The tongue and groove is always in the centre so the boards have one perfect side turned either way, therefore everything produced will fit neatly with everything else. If two perfect sides are required it involves an extra charge of 50% because the beams have to be specially selected. Every floorboard is finished at three quarters of an inch thick. Anything other than that is deemed a "special" job whereby the profiles of the machine have to be reset, and is therefore charged at a special rate. For instance 1 inch thicker is 25% extra, and so on, pro rata. ALL such "specials" involve a setting up fee for the time incurred.
Prices per square yard range from 18 pounds sterling to 25 pounds sterling, depending on what type of wood is required and where it is sourced from.
We are able to advise on a fitting service for any flooring purchased from us, or indeed for any type of flooring to be fitted. Please contact us for details.
All floors move, therefore all flooring is made with a 3/8 inch gap in the tongue and groove to allow for expansion in winter and contraction in summer so that the flooring will not split. Any timber can be supplied in a rough sawn condition. Prices are variable. Wood can also be supplied to the trade for such things as skirting boards, architraves, and staircases, i.e. 8 and a quarter inch by 4 inch boards; 6 and a quarter by 6 inch boards. Another much requested item is timber for ledge and brace doors. Pitch pine and Canadian redwood are more hard wearing for floors than conventional pine which is used in 98% of average houses.
If the floor is to be laid on chipboard there is virtually no waste. But if laying on to joints you must allow 10% for wastage. The process of ripping up flooring and relaying can involve cutting and wastage to maintain speed. Please note that all orders must be secured by a deposit.
On request and dependent on mileage. There is a fixed charge for labour costs plus a variable charge for diesel. However, local deliveries will not incur a delivery charge. Alternatively, you can collect the goods from the yard, which is situated near Wetherby.
